Skating Suppliers

Many people have asked for a listing of Suppliers for Ice Skating. The original maintainer of the Recreational Skating FAQ has resisted incorporating such a list in the main FAQ, as is might be taken as an endorsement of certain suppliers. Thus I have jumped into the breach

The purpose of this document is to enable skaters to locate dealers and manufacturers of needed supplies. The intent is to list resources no matter where they may be located in the physical world. The author would like to receive suggestions for new listings. If the document becomes too large, it can be broken up into sections.

The author would also like to be informed of changes in phone numbers, and other contact information of suppliers of skating products. If a suppler does not wish to be listed, they should contact me. I would also appreciate being informed if you are unable to connect to a listed site, or if the URL has been switched to point at an site containing unrelated material. It has happened that domains that have gone out of business have been purchased for unrelated sites. If you have tried to connect to a site, and after a couple of days it still is out, please let me know so that I can make inquiries.

I would be interested in hearing about European and Asian addresses. For example do Asian skaters use British and American Blades, or do they have local brands to use.

This listing is primarly concerned with skating apparel. If you are more interested in finding sources for tights, unitards, warmup and practice outfits, or other danceware you may wish to look at the danceware listing maintained by the Open Directory Project at: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/Niche/Dance/

You may also wish to consult industry sites such as the Dancewear Association of Canada.

Retail Dealers

Most of the shops listed will cary a wide range of items ranging from skates to costumes, cases, leather care and many other useful things. Most Good shops will also be aware of the market for used skates in the area, Major shops will often offer a trade in or a consignment sales program in areas where the local skating clubs are unable to provide this kind of service, as it is outgrow their skates long before they are worn-out.

The quality of individual reatilers does vary over a wide range, but the best skate shops are staffed by Skaters and Coaches with experience in all types of skating. A full service dealer will be prepared to mount your blades and also offer skate repairs.

This list is by no means exhaustive. Listing or omission of a supplier is not to be taken as any refection on a given supplier.

This information is provided as-is without warranty. If you manufacture a skating related product or can suggest a [NEW!]supplier that I have omitted and you would like the information included in this FAQ. Please write to me with details of your product and I will endeavor to add them to thelist. Suppliers should take care to send me mail in Plain Text, without HTML encoding. As my SPAM filters will often delete HTML formated mail

The problem of HTML encoded mail has encouraged the nice folks who run the Ham Radio satalite system to post instructions on turning HTML off on Outlook Express mail at this address: http://www.amsat.org/amsat/listserv/express.html They say that the details may vary from version to version. They believe that they have selected reasonable settings to use all the time for most people, but you may prefer others. Feel free to use other settings for your other email, but please use the settings suggested here when you send mail to me. I would prefer to receive the information in the same format that it would appear in the listing. Mail received in Microsoft Word Format will be deleted UNREAD. Please do not use unmodifed Outlook or Internet Explorer to send mail, as they tend to use encoding that is only readable on mail readers made by the Microsoft Corporation. Please also provide your complete physical or mail address even if it appears in your web site, as I often work on my updates while not connected to the web. Since I normaly use cut and paste to ensure that addresses are copied correctly, I prefer to receive your information as text rather than as a graphic.
